Welcome to

THE SUMMIT

What does trans resilience look like? We’re building a community space to share and learn with and from one another, as we explore this question and others impacting our people’s emotional wellness. The TGNC Wellness Workers’ Summit is a space for trans/nonbinary folks doing emotional labor — from those of us who are clinically trained, to those who are simply good friends who show up for their people — to come together and celebrate our shared vocations/callings/sacred work, while giving and receiving support outside of the cis gaze.

How many times, as trans folks doing this work, have we encountered cis-facing trainings centering non-trans allies serving our communities? This summit turns the tables, providing trans/nonbinary-identified providers with an opportunity to learn in community with each other, whether we serve primarily other trans/nonbinary folks, or a general population.

If this space speaks to you, there’s a space for you with us: Virtually in February.

Who We Are

We are a group of grassroots organizers who wanted to create space by and for our community. We recognize that times are challenging, and we deserve spaces outside of the cis-gaze to build on our skills and support one another. Our backgrounds include community organization, peer support, facilitating support groups, social work, supporting youth, and caring for our TGNC community outside formal systems.

If you have any questions, please email the Summit Director, Lyle Chalker (he/ae/fin) at call2victory@gmail.com.

Support

Peer Respite

A percentage of the proceeds will be supporting the Detroit Peer Respite.

What is peer respite? A non-clinical (no doctors, therapists, or psychiatrists) alternative place to stay during a mental health crisis, run by people who can relate. It is 100% voluntary, meaning that folks are not required to stay nor receive any “care” that is non-consensual. Detroit Peer Respite is a 100% consensual, 100% voluntary, 100% non-clinical alternative place to stay during a mental health and/or substance-related (non-medical) crisis. It’s run by and for Detroiters who have personally survived their own crises, and can relate. Detroit Peer Respite is a collective of abolitionist care workers from in and around the City of Detroit. Most are trans and/or queer women and femmes. Some, but not all, of us have job experience in the mental health and/or medical professions; but respite is not a medical or professional offering — it’s a form of mutual aid.

You can learn more about the Detroit Peer Respite here and ways to get involved. You can also contribute directly to their fundraiser.
